SPMC to implement interventions that will curb hospital acquired infections

SPMC administrators and participants to the QUALITI Program Workshop.SPMC administrators and participants to the QUALITI Program Workshop.Over the next six months, the Surgical Wards and heart Institute of Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) will implement interventions aimed at preventing and reducing surgical site infections (SSI) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP).

The bundles of interventions are an offshoot of the QUALITI Program Workshop conducted by Johnson and Johnson Medical Affairs (JJMA) last 4-5 March 2015 among selected SPMC personnel. The team of facilitators from JJMA included Dr. John Flores, Ms. Miya Sandico, Mr. Jene Aliwalas, Dr. Joy Menguito, Mr. Clifford Faire and Mr. Gilbert Madriaga.

Ms Minnie Yao and Ms Amelita Lorejo will lead the VAP Team, while Dr Ricardo Audan and Ms Josephine Ramirez will lead the SSI Team in carrying out the interventions.

The SPMC Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Unit will coordinate with the Infection Control Committee in order to monitor the implementation of the interventions.
